Conference On Safe Migration Held In Gaibandha

Migrants urged to go abroad through proper channel

GAIBANDHA, Nov 26: Speakers at a function here urged the international job seekers to go abroad in search of works through maintaining proper channel to avoid lawful action and other complexities. 

"Many of the people of the district live on banks of the river, but they are seriously affected by untimely river erosion caused by negative impacts of climate change that causes climate victims being loser. 
In this circumstance, there is no alternative to bring the climate-affected people under adaptation with climate resilient agro-technologies aimed at restoring  their livelihood through involving them in income-generating activities", they also said. 

They made the comments while they were addressing a press conference on Climate Change and Safe Migration held at the hallroom of a non-government organization here in Nashratpur area under Sadar Upazila in the district on Monday noon.

Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a non-government organization, arranged the function under Promoting Resilience, Opportunity and Socio-Economic Empowerment of Migrants/Climate Displaced Communities in Bangladesh (Prosperity) project funded by AWO Germany.
 
Engineer Md Abdur Rahim, principal of Gaibandha Technical Training Center under the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and Nesarul Haque, assistant director of district employment and manpower office of the ministry, spoke at the event as the special guest while assistant coordinator of GUK Aftab Hossain presided over the function.

Earlier, objectives of the project was presented by Programme Manager Joya Proshad. 

Amzad Hossain, manager of Expatriate Welfare Bank, here, addressed the function as a resource person.
 
Principal of TTC here Md Abdur Rahim, in his speech, urged the international job seekers to go abroad after being skilled to get desired salary from there to help the country earn foreign currency or remittance. 

To make the people skilled on different trades, the TTC is providing training for the people who are interested to go abroad for works, he added. 

Assistant Director Nesarul Haque said, over 250 international job seekers are giving their fingerprint at his office per week to go abroad in search of work.  

In reply to a query, Nesarul Haque said as many as 64, 126 people are working in different countries of the world from the district. Of them, some 6,464 are females and the rest 57,662 are males. 

At last, they sought whole-hearted cooperation of all journalists here to make the people aware so that they could not go abroad illegally.

A good number of journalists of print and electronic media attended the function.
