SATKHIRA, Nov 27: A tragic landslide claimed the life of a labourer in Ashashuni Upazila of the district on Monday.
The incident took place in Chapra area near the Marichchapa River under the upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Jamirul Islam, 40, son of Mahmud Ali, a resident of Uttar Chapra Village in the upazila.
Jamirul was working alongside his brother Imamul and cousin Anarul, among others, when a mound of soil suddenly collapsed.
Local Union Parishad Member Nazrul Islam said that the workers were clearing soil near the Chapra Hindol Youth Association grounds.
Jamirul became trapped under the fallen soil. Fire Service personnel arrived promptly to rescue him from the debris and rushed him to Ashashuni Upazila Health Complex, where he was pronounced dead by on-duty doctor.
