A total of 13 people have been killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in seven districts - Habiganj, Natore, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Sunamganj, Chattogram and Sirajganj, in three days.
HABIGANJ: Two motorcyclists were killed after a truck hit their motorcycle in Baniachang Upazila of the district on Tuesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Kader, 24, son of Mujibur Rahman, and Kawsar Mia, 22, son of Abdul Mazid, residents of Kaliarbhanga Village under Nabiganj Upazila in the district.
Police and local sources said that a truck coming from the opposite direction hit a motorcycle carrying Abdul Kader and Kawsar Mia while they were heading towards Habiganj District Town in the evening riding on the motorcycle, which left Abdul Kader dead on the spot and Kawsar Mia critically injured.
Kawsar was later rescued by locals and taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Baniachang Police Station (PS) Kabir Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
NATORE: Four people were killed in separate road accidents in Gurudaspur and Lalpur upazilas of the district on Tuesday.
Two motorcyclists were killed in a road accident on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway in Kachikata area of Gurudaspur Upazila in the afternoon.
The accident occurred at around 3:25 pm when an unidentified vehicle hit the motorcycle, leaving both riders dead on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Motaleb Hossain, 45, son of late Abed Ali, and Shah Alam, 47, son of late Joyen Pramanik. Both of them were residents of Koishabpur Village in Chatmohar Upazila of Pabna District.
Bonpara Highway PS OC Ismail Hossain, said, "Locals reported seeing two bodies lying on the road near the 10th bridge of the area. Upon receiving the information, police and Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies. The remains have been kept at the Bonpara Highway Police outpost. The exact circumstances of the accident are yet to be determined."
Authorities are investigating the incident to identify the vehicle involved and ascertain the cause of the accident, the OC added.
Earlier, two other persons were killed in a collision between a truck and a battery-powered auto-rickshaw in Lalpur Upazila of the district on Tuesday morning.
The accident took place at around 7:15 am in Kadamchilan area on the Natore-Pabna highway of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as auto-van driver Alfu, 55, a resident of Dhanaidah Village under Baraigram Upazila in Natore, and truck driver Mostakim, 24, a resident of Kachua area under Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat District.
Bonpara Highway PS OC Ismail Hossain said that a truck was going to Natore from Pabna in the morning. On the way, it lost control over its steering in Kadamchilan area on the Natore-Pabna highway at around 7:15 am and hit an auto-van coming from the opposite direction and then, crashed into a nearby tree.
The auto-van driver Alfu died on the spot. The truck driver Mostakim and his helper were seriously injured at that time.
Upon receiving the information, Fire Service personnel rescued the injured and admitted them to a private hospital in Baraigram. While undergoing treatment there, truck driver Mostakim died at around 10 am.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies.
However, necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the OC added.
PATUAKHALI: A land official was killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a motorcycle in Sadar Upazila of the district on Monday.
The accident took place in Koromja Tola area on the Patuakhali-Kuakata highway of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Golam Maula Manik, an officer of Land Office.
It was known that a bus of 'Ena Paribahan' coming from Kuakata collided head-on with the motorcycle in Koromja Tola area on the Patuakhali-Kuakata highway while Manik was on his way to his workplace in Noyakata area, which left Manik critically injured.
He was, later, rescued by locals and taken to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Patuakhali Sadar PS OC Imtiaz Ahmed confirmed the incident.
NOAKHALI: A young man was killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Subarnachar Upazila of the district on Monday morning.
The accident took place at around 6:30 am near Haris Chowdhury Bazaar on the Atkapalia Bazaar-Sonapur road in Charjubli Union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Md Yamin alias Henzu, 25, son of Md Bahar and a resident of Boyarchar Chairman Ghat area under Harni Union in Hatiya Upazila of the district.
According to local sources, Henzu was travelling to Maijdee from Chairman Ghat in the morning riding on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw. On the way, the auto-rickshaw lost control over its steering and collided head-on with a pickup van coming from the opposite direction. The collision left the auto-rickshaw driver and another passenger seriously injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and transported them to Noakhali General Hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of their injuries, the injured were referred to Dhaka for advanced medical care. But Henzu succumbed to his injuries on the way, near Kanchpur Bridge.
Charjabbar PS OC Shahin Mia confirmed the information saying that, "The pickup van has been seized but its driver fled the scene after the accident. Legal actions will be taken if the deceased's family files a written complaint."
SUNAMGANJ: A woman was killed in a collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday noon.
The accident took place on the Sylhet-Sunamganj highway in Nilpur area of the upazila at around 12 pm.
The deceased was identified as Rajia Khatun, 50, a resident of Inamnagar Village in Shantiganj Upazila of the district.
It was known that the accident occurred at around 12 pm in Nilpur area on the Sylhet-Sunamganj highway, leaving Rajia dead on the spot and injuring several others.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
The injured were rescued by locals and taken to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital.
Sunamganj Sadar PS OC Nazmul Haque confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
CHATTOGRAM: Two people lost their lives in separate road accidents in the district in two days.
The accidents took place in Patiya and Sitakunda upazilas.
A tragic head-on collision between a passenger bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Kamalmunshir Haat on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway on Sunday claimed one life and injured two others.
The deceased was identified as Md Abul Kalam, 55, a resident of North Khurana Fakirpara area under Patiya Upazila.
The injured persons are: Abdul Jabbar and his wife Marjina Binte Happy, also residents of the same area.
The accident occurred at around 11 m when a bus of 'King Travels' travelling from Chattogram to Cox's Bazar collided with an unregistered CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
The injured were rescued by locals first taken to the Patiya Upazila Health Complex, and later, transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for better treatment.
Patiya Crossing Highway PS OC Mohammad Jasim confirmed the incident, adding that vehicles involved in the accident have been seized.
In another accident, Md Fotik Islam, 35, a pedestrian, was fatally struck by a speedy bus on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Barabkunda Bazaar on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Fotik Islam. He was a tea vendor from Anantapur under Barabkunda Union in the upazila.
According to police and local sources, Fotik was waiting to cross the highway when a Dhaka-bound bus hit him. He was rushed to the CMCH, but succumbed to his injuries later that night.
Bar Aulia Highway PS OC Khokon Chandra Ghosh confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation is underway.
SIRAJGANJ: Two young men were killed after being being hit by a bus in Ullapara Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.
The accident occurred at around 8:15 am in Boalia Bazar area on the Bogura-Nagarbari highway in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Shariful Islam, 25, son of Mizanur Rahman of Matikata Village in the upazila, and Naimur Rahman, 22, son of Shafiqul Islam of Ratankandi Village in Shahjadpur Upazila of the district.
Hatikumrul Highway PS OC Abdur Rouf said that Shariful and Naimur were heading towards Pabna riding on a motorcycle. When they reached Boalia area, a bus coming from the opposite direction ran over them. The two died on the spot.
Later on, police recovered the bodies. However, the bus driver along with his vehicle had fled the scene. Legal action is underway in this regard, the OC added.
