Commerce Adviser visits Malaysia, urges for palm oil ahead of Ramadan

The government has requested Malaysia to take necessary measures as early as possible to supply refined palm oil to Bangladesh through Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

Sk Bashir Uddin, Adviser to the Ministry of Commerce, made the request when he met Malaysian Minister of Plantation and Commodities YB Datuk Seri Johari bin Abdul Ghani in Kuala Lumpur on the second day of his two-day visit to Malaysia on Tuesday.
The Malaysian minister took strong note of the request of Bangladesh Commerce Adviser to supply refined palm oil on a Business to Government (B2G) basis under the patronage of his government. 

He assured of taking immediate effective measures after discussing this with local Malaysian businessmen; said a press release.

During the meeting, the Bangladesh Commerce Adviser discussed various aspects of Bangladesh-Malaysia bilateral relations and appraised the Malaysian minister about Bangladesh market situation such as production and supply of essential commodities. 

 Malaysia is the world's second largest palm oil producer and Bangladesh is one    of the major South Asian importers in terms of importing Malaysian crude palm oil.

The Commerce Adviser highlighted the Bangladesh government's plan to provide various essentials including edible oil at fair price to 10 million families under the Social Safety Net program through the state-run TCB.

The adviser also discussed other major business issues including collaboration in  rubber sector development, potential trade and investment opportunities and cooperation in establishing a Commodity Exchange proposed by Chittagong Stock Exchange.

 Deputy High Commissioner Mohammad Khorshed Alam Khastgir, First Secretary (Commercial) Pranab Kumar Ghosh and First Secretary (Political) Rehana Parvin from the Bangladesh High Commission were present. 

On Malaysian side Press Secretary to Malaysian Minister of Agriculture and Commodities Yusrinuddin bin Abd Karim and other senior officials were among others present.
