NATORE, Nov 28: The Singra Pourashava distributed approximately 536 dustbins on Monday to make Singra town garbage-free.
Majharul Islam, UNO and administrator of Singra Pourashava, inaugurated the distribution programme at the Madrasa Road crossing in the afternoon.
During the event, Majharul Islam pointed out the absence of dustbins at various locations in the town, which forces residents to dispose of garbage into nearby canals.
This practice has not only reduced the canals' navigability but has also led to severe air and environmental pollution.
He announced that the dustbins were distributed free of cost and would be installed in front of educational institutions, government offices, key areas of the town, and across the 12 wards of the Pourashava.
Addressing the citizens, he said, "The town belongs to you, so it is your responsibility to keep it clean." He assured full cooperation from the upazila administration in maintaining cleanliness and urged residents and business owners to work together to protect the town's environment.
Present at the event were Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Golam Rabbani Sarder, Poura-Executive Officer Abdul Matin, Head Assistant Zillur Rahaman, Executive Engineer Nurul Islam, Upazila Education Officer Ali Ashraf, and Juba Unnayan Officer Abdul Latif.
