Unbridled looting happened in the banking and energy sectors over the last 15 years. The white paper preparation committee on major financial irregularities in these sectors during this period has found massive irregularities, said Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya
The committee headed by Debapriya will submit its reports to the Chief Adviser on Sunday next and make it public on Thursday.
He said this while speaking at a dialogue on 'Current Economic Situation and Launching Open Budget Survey Results-2023' held at the Economic Reporters Forum ( ERF) on Thursday.
The program was jointly organized by ERF, Research and Policy Integration for Development (RAPID) and International Budget Partnership (IBP).
Looting happened more in the banking and energy sectors.
Debapriya said, "The committee formed by the government to prepare the white paper was given three months' time.
Our work has already been completed. We have received millions of data. Editing is underway. Hopefully, we will hand it over to the chief advisor next Sunday.
He said many initiatives have been taken to bring about changes in the economy through the change within the government. We must return people's wealth.
"If we cannot return the wealth that has been created through corruption question will remain what kind of revolution is this, said Debapriya.
He said the white paper preparation committee in the financial sector has prepared a report after three months of discussions, reviews, data collection and verification with secretaries, businessmen, citizens and related individuals and institutions.
Earlier, a 12-member white paper preparation committee was formed on August 28 headed by economist Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya. It is reviewing the sector-wise situation as well as the macroeconomic situation data.
Dr. M. Abu Eusuf, professor, Dr. MA Razzaque, Chairman, RAPID, Shawakat Hossain Masum, head of online, Prothom Alo, Anarul Kabir, joint secretary, ministry of finance, Mohammad Refayet Ullah Mirdha, President, ERF and Abul Kashem, Secretary of ERF, among others, spoke on the occasion.
