LALMOHAN, BHOLA, Nov 30: Fisheries Department in Lalmohan Upazila of the district eradicated illegal fishing tools and nets worth over Tk 30 lakh in the Meghna River.

The operation aimed to protect aquatic resources and was conducted jointly by the Fisheries Offices of Lalmohan and Tazumuddin under the Hilsa Resource Development and Management Project.

Under the direction of Bhola District Fisheries Officer Biswajit Kumar Deb, the operation targeted fishing tools and small-mesh nets installed in the submerged areas of the river near Char No. 12. Around 8,500 illegal fishing stakes and numerous illegal fishing nets were seized, and later, destroyed following proper procedures.

These illegal nets and stakes, used extensively for catching juvenile fish, pose a severe threat to the ecological balance and sustainable fishery practices in the region.

The operation was overseen by Lalmohan Upazila Fisheries Officer Ali Ahmed Akhand and Tazumuddin Upazila Fisheries Officer Md Amir Hossain. Other officials present included Lalmohan Upazila Marine Fisheries Officer Md Saidur Rahman, Tazumuddin Upazila Marine Fisheries Officer Md Al-Amin, and field assistants Md Nesar Uddin and Saiful Islam Sohag.
