Separate courts on Thursday sentenced two persons to life-term imprisonment in two different courts in two districts - Meherpur and Narail.
MEHERPUR: A court in the district on Thursday sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment for violating a minor girl in Mujibnagar Upazila in 2023.
Judge of District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Touhidul Islam handed down the verdict.
The condemned convict is Taslem Uddin, 60, a resident of Bhaberpara Village in Mujibnagar Upazila of the district. The court also fined Taslem Uddin Tk 50,000, and in default of which he will have to suffer six more months in the jail.
According to the prosecution on October 22 in 2023, Taslem Uddin violated the minor girl after taking her at a banana garden in Bhaberpara Village under Mujibnagar Upazila in the district. Following the incident, the victim girl's mother filed a case with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Meherpur.
After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court against Taslem Uddin.
Following this, the tribunal judge pronounced the verdict on Thursday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.

NARAIL: A court in the district on Thursday sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a drugs case filed with Narail Sadar Police Station (PS) in 2012.
Narail Additional District and Sessions Court-2 Judge Md Shajahan Ali handed down the verdict in the afternoon.
The condemned convict is Md Biplob Hossain, 38, son of Sultan Ahmed, a resident of Bagachra-Satmail area under Sharsha Upazila of Jashore District.
According to the details of the case, on July 10 in 2012, a team of police conducted a drive on the Narail-Jashore road in Bashvita area under Sadar Upazila in Narail District and recovered 35 bottles of phensidyl after searching Biplob's motorcycle under the seat of the bike and arrested him when he was going to Narail riding on a motorcycle.
A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with Narail Sadar PS against the arrested person in this connection.
Later on, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court against him after investigation.
Following this, the court found him guilty and handed down the punishment on Thursday afternoon after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
Additional Public Prosecutor of the court Advocate Kazi Ziaur Rahman Pikul confirmed the matter.
