International And National Day Of Persons With Disabilities Observed 

Thrust on integrating disabled persons into mainstream

The 33rd International and 26th National Day of Persons with Disabilities was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country and the globe on Tuesday with a call to bring the persons with disabilities under the mainstream of development. 

This year's theme of the day is "Inclusive Sustainable Development: People with Disabilities Will Move Forward with Developed Leadership."

GAIBANDHA: Marking the day, the district administration and Department of Social Services in association with Jatiyo Samaj Kalyan Parishad and Jatiyo Protibandhi Unnayan Foundation organized different programmes.  

In the morning around 11am, a post-rally discussion meeting on the importance of the day was held in the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) with Deputy Director of the department Fazlul Haque in the chair. 

ADC (General) AKM Hedayetul Islam attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest on behalf of DC Chowdhury Muazzam Ahmed and Civil Surgeon Kaniz Sabiha  and Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdullah AL- Mamun spoke at the event as special guests.

District Primary Education Officer Md Nobez Uddin, District Disability Affairs Officer Aktar Hossain and Sadar Upazila Social Services Officer Nasir Uddin addressed the meeting, among others. 

The speakers, in their speech, said as the people including the children with disabilities are inseparable part of the society and the human diversity, it is imperative to integrate people with disabilities to ensure their empowerment.

The ADC-General, in his speech, said holistic and collective efforts for both and private organizations have become an urgent need for ensuring fundamental rights and friendly atmosphere of the persons with disabilities in the society.

DD of the department Falul Haque, in his concluding speech, said the department is implementing various programmes for the persons with disabilities to link them with the mainstream of the society for overall development of the nation.

Later, wheel chairs received from JPUF were distributed to the persons with disability free of cost, marking the day. 

Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out from the premises of the District Social Services office, and it ended on the DC office premises after parading the main roads of the town.  
 
A good number of people including the officials, NGO activists, the persons with disabilities and their guardians participated in the programmes.

NATORE:  Marking the day, a rally was brought out from Rani Bhabani Rajbari premises in the district town in the morning that ended at the same venue, parading important city streets.

After the rally, a discussion was held on the premises of Rani Bhabani Rajbari with DC Asma Shaheen in the chair. 

Speakers said that Bangladesh is moving towards the destination of a prosperous future by removing all obstacles and achieving the goal of inclusive sustainable development, and the government is working towards this goal.

ADC (General) Md Maksudur Rahman, ASP (Administration and Finance) Md Shariful Islam, Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Mahbubur Rahman, Executive Director of Non-Government Organization 'Alo' Shamima Laiju Nila, and District Disability Affairs Officer Bhakta Prasad Das, among others, spoke on the occasion.
