Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus will hold a joint meeting with diplomats representing 27 European countries, stationed in Dhaka and New Delhi, on December 9.
"This will be a unique opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues, including enhanced economic cooperation, the Rohingya crisis, post-LDC Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) facilities, and a potential Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with Bangladesh," said Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director General of the Public Diplomacy Wing, during a weekly briefing on Thursday.
Since 2001, the European Union's (EU) trade relations with Bangladesh have been shaped by unilateral trade preferences under the GSP Everything But Arms (EBA) arrangement, which provides duty-free and quota-free market access for Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
The upcoming dialogue will focus on strengthening trade and economic collaboration as Bangladesh transitions out of the LDC category, Alam stated.
"In addition to the Rohingya crisis, key discussions will revolve around post-LDC GSP+ facilities and the proposed partnership and cooperation pact with Bangladesh," he added.
The meeting will include 20 ambassadors from EU countries based in New Delhi and seven from Dhaka. This marks the first occasion where all 27 EU ambassadors will come together to engage with the Bangladeshi government.
