93pc pry teachers to be recruited on merits: Adviser

Primary and Mass Education Adviser Dr Bidhan Ranjon Ray Poddar has said that 93 percent teachers in primary education level will be recruited based on merit.

The adviser shared the information while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with the officials concerned of Khulna Division at Khulna Divisional Commissioner’s office on Sunday.

He said that there will be no dependent quota in the primary teacher’s recruitment now on.
He also emphasized the need for the training of teachers before joining the service for the development of the primary education.

The adviser also mentioned that it is not possible only for the government to build up an improved education system but a collective participation of the society is needed in this regard.

Referring to the infrastructures, the adviser said beautiful schools are being built in Dhaka city corporations and surrounding areas and ‘Mid-Day Meals’ will be introduced in all primary schools across the country within the next five years and a project in this regard is pending for the approval of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

He said in the first phase, it will be introduced at all schools in 150 upazilas across the country. 

Meanwhile, students in Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban some and other parts of the country are already getting ‘Mid-Day Meals’. 

He also talked about the stipends, which were introduced to increase the attendance of students. The adviser said the expected results in this sector are far away from the reality as students' names are listed for stipends at primary schools, many of them are studying in other schools.

Chaired by Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Firoz Sarkar, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Additional Director General of the Primary Education Directorate Md Atikur Rahman and Deputy Director -Primary education of Khulna division Dr Md Shafiqul Islam.
