Change in ICT syllabus can raise remittance flow: NU VC

GAZIPUR, Dec. 10: A change in Information and Technology (ICT) syllabus can boost up the current remittance flow to Bangladesh significantly. 

Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the National University (NU) Dr ASM Amanullah  came up with this remark at a function held in the Institute of Science & Technology (IST) in the city on Tuesday. 

If a short and mandatory ICT syllabus can be introduced in the existing NU syllabus, the remittance flow from expatriates and onshore freelancing of the country will notch up to $ 100 billion in just next 10 years, he added.

He further said,  if the present syllabus is reformed in public universities including NU, it is very likely to create a huge skilled manpower in the country.

NU VC said, steps including seeking cooperation and knowhow from foreign universities are being taken by the NU authorities in order to bring in timely changes to the current ICT syllabus. 

Recently, he had a bilateral meeting with the Technical Board in London in this regard, he disclosed.

Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam, pro-VC of NU, and Professor Dr Md Sharif Uddin of the CSE Department of Jahangirnagar University were present as special guests.

The event was chaired by Professor Dr Shahida Rafik, chairman of the Board of Governors of the IST and Emeritus Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Dhaka University.

Among others, Mahmudul Zaman, principal of Banshkait Barrister Rafikul Islam Mia Degree College, administrative officers of the institute, and departmental heads were present.

In the beginning of the event, a moment of silence was observed to commemorate all martyrs during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. 

Professor MA Majid, principal of the IST, delivered the welcome speech. 

After the event, guests awarded prizes among winners of the software/hardware project exhibition and poster presentation.
