The committee, formed to recommend the interim government about promotion deprived officers of the administration during last 15 years of Awami League government, has suggested promoting 764 deprived officers, who retired from the service, to the ranks of secretary and additional secretary with retrospective effect.
Of those, 119 officers have been recommended to promote as secretary, 41 as grade-1 (secretary status) and 528 as additional secretary, according to the recommendation of the committee.
The five-member committee led by former Finance Secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan, also former alternative executive director of the World Bank, submitted its report to Chief Adviser Prof Dr. Muhammad Yunus meeting him at his Jamuna Guest House office on Tuesday along with other members.
Chief Adviser's Principal Secretary M. Siraj Uddin Miah also present that time.
Earlier on September 16 this year, the government formed the committee to recommend about the promotion deprived officers within 90 working days. However, the committee submitted the report before the deadline.
In the report, the committee considered the matters of promotion deprivation of the deputy secretary to secretary level officers within the period of January 9 to August 4 2024. The report was prepared scrutinizing the applications from the deprived officers.
The Chief Adviser thanked the committee for submission of its report before 90 days, according to the Chief Adviser's Press Wing.
According to relevant sources of the Public Administration Ministry, some 1,540 applications including 19 from the officers, who have already expired, were submitted to the committee for consideration. Of the applications, matters of 13 applications were not under the jurisdiction of the committee.
As a result, the committee examined rest of 1,527 applications in its 28 meetings. It recommended the government to promote 119 officers as secretary, 41 as grade-1 (secretary status) and 528 as additional secretary with retrospective effect as all of them are retired officers, according to the committee.
After the fall of Awami League government on August 5 this year, the interim government has started promoting the officers who were deprived during the last 15 years.
On Agust 13, 117 senior assistant secretaries were promoted to the rank of deputy secretary while 201 deputy secretaries were promoted to joint secretary on August 18 and 131 joint secretaries promoted to additional secretary on August 25.
Public Administration Ministry's Senior Secretary Dr. Md. Mokhles Ur Rahman recently told media that they have been working to elevate the ranks of promotion deprived officials and it would be given soon.
