Selling of national flags on in festive manner

DINAJPUR, Dec 12: National flags made of both cloth and paper are being sold in festive manner in different areas in the district, targeting the Victory Day, December 16.

In 20 groups, 100 seasonal flag sellers from different districts of the country are continuing flag sales in Dinajpur from morning to evening. 

Residence roofs, corridors, cars, rickshaws and bicycles are decorated with national flags of different sizes in the district. Seasonal flag selling groups are hawking in different Mahallas in the country for sales. 

A seasonal flag seller from Barishal Md Sagor, 37, said, "I do the work whatever is available for the whole year. This is victory month. This month flag sells well. Selling flag is easier."  

Another seller Ismail Hossain, 48, said, he has come from Shariatpur; in the last year, he sold flags in Rangpur. 

While talking in front of Central Shaheed Minar in Gou-e-Maidan area in Dinajpur, he said, in profession he is a Hilsa trader; but every year in the month of victory, he moves to different districts to sell new national flags; so far, he travelled 28 districts in his life.

The national flag is of respect, and customers honour it, he added. 

In a five-member group, Abubakar, 55, has come to Dinajpur from Shariatpur for the sale of flags. He said, at least 20 groups like them have come to Dinajpur from different areas of the country, each having five members. 

In the last year, they got Tk 25,000 each in seven days after excluding all costs including food and accommodation. This year they find it a different perspective and hope higher sales. So far, he has travelled 36 districts with flags in hand in his life.

One Arati Ray came to travel with his friend in Gour-a-Maidan. She purchased two flags for tying on forehead. She gave one to his friend. She purchased these at Tk 40.

She said, "National flag means a different feeling. So, I have purchased."  
 
"Victory month December appears to us yearly. Then seasonal traders get in momentum trading. They round different lanes and thoroughfares in the town and hawk. Along with cloth flags, they also sell paper flags. Footpaths and shops are decorated with paper flags," she added.

Flags of different sizes are selling at Tk 10, 20 and Tk 500 per piece.
