Denmark to provide 35m kroner for boosting BD human rights

The governments of Bangladesh and Denmark have signed an agreement under which Denmark will provide a grant of 35 million Danish kroner, (approximately Tk 59 crore) to promote good governance and human rights in Bangladesh.

The grant will be provided under the revised agreement namely 'Agreement to the Framework Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark', said a press release of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) on Thursday.

Danish government is providing the grant to support the ongoing reform programme of Bangladesh government to integrate human rights, democracy and good governance with development activities in Bangladesh's changing context.

Secretary of the Economic Relations Division Md Shahriar Quader Siddiqui and Danish Ambassador to Dhaka Christian Brix Moller signed the agreement. The event was attended by concerned officials of the Danish Embassy and senior ERD officials.

Bangladesh and Denmark have a long history of 52 years of bilateral cooperation. Over the years, the Danish government has been providing assistance to Bangladesh for development of agriculture, water and sanitation, communications, climate change, good governance and human rights. 

In addition, Bangladesh has also commercial relations with Denmark.
