The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, solemnly observed the ‘Martyred Intellectuals Day’ on Saturday, paying tribute to the brilliant intellectuals who were murdered systematically during the final days of Bangladesh’s Liberation War.
Marking the day, the authority raised the national flag to half-mast and raised the black flag fully, in front of the administration building by IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Yeaqub Ali. Later, a mourn rally was held led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah while Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Yeaqub Ali, treasurer Professor Dr Jahangir Alam and others were present. After parading the main roads of the campus the rally ended at the university’s memorial.
There, the university authority placed the floral wreath at the university’s memorial, led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah, while Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Yeaqub Ali, and Treasurer Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam were present. The engineering and technology faculty dean Professor Dr Manjurul Haque, the theology and islamic studies faculty dean Professor Dr ABM Siddiqur Rahman Asrafi, Professor Dr. Nozibul Haque, proctor Professor Dr Shahinuzzaman, Professor Dr Obayrdul Islam were also present at the day.
Later, various teachers’ organizations, hall provosts, teachers of various departments, Students’ Union, Chhatra Dal, departments, journalists’ organizations and volunteer organizations laid wreaths to pay their respects.
The observance concluded with a moment of silence and a munajaat led by an imam of the university central mosque for the martyred intellectuals.
Earlier, after the Juma prayer on Friday dua-quran khatam was held to commemorate the martyred intellectuals.
