SI killed being hit by covered van in Gopalganj

A police sub-inspector was killed after being run over by a covered van in Gopalganj's Sadar upazila on Saturday.

The accident occurred around 2:15 pm at Arpara in the upazila.

The dead police officer was Saiful Islam, 35, hailed from Nakulhati village under Faridpur Salta Upazila. He worked as a sub-inspector at Gopalganj DSB.

According to police, he went to Arpara in the afternoon to collect information about Ulama Dal's conference. At that time, a speeding Tekerhat-bound covered van hit him while crossing the Gopalganj-Tekerhat regional highway near where the Ulama Dal's conference was being held. He died on the spot.

The covert van was able to escape at high speed.

Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Sajedur Rahman confirmed the news. Police officials including Police Superintendent Mizanur Rahman visited the scene, he said.
