A total of 1,000 blankets were distributed among poor, cold-affected residents in Sadar Upazila of Bogura District on Saturday.
The distribution programme was held on the Matidali School and College ground in response to a call from Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Former vice-chairman and general secretary of Sadar Upazila BNP, Mahidul Islam Gafur, led the initiative, providing essential warm clothes to those in need during the winter season.
While speaking at the event, Gafur urged affluent members of society to extend their support to help alleviate the sufferings of the cold-hit population.
Among others, present were former president of Zila Krishak Dal Rafikul Islam, former president of the district town unit Jubodal Ensan Ali Sheikh, student leader Advocate Salim Rana, and BNP leader Motiur Rahman.
