The Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) launched AC bus service on Gazipur-Dhaka Airport route along the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane on Sunday morning.
Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan inaugurated the service at the Shib Bari BRT office.
The BRT project has cost more than Tk 4,000 crore. The BRT project is expected to be completed by next June. For now, small vehicles and BRTC buses will run through the lanes, he said. Problems identified during this trial period will be resolved step by step, he added.
Initially, 10 AC buses, under BRTC along the BRT lane, will cover a route of 42.5 kilometres.
The route stretches from Shibbari BRT terminal in Gazipur to the Airport, spanning 20.5 kilometres, and 22 kilometres from the Airport to Gulistan.
The fare from Shib Bari to Airport has been fixed at Tk 70 and from Shib Bari to Gulistan at Tk 140. The number of buses will be increased later, upon the demand of passengers.
