BAGERHAT, Dec 15: The farmers who have been victim of fake insecticide, raised complaint against a company in Mollahat in the district.
They made the complaint with the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection-Bagerhat.
According to the complaint, through marketing of counterfeit insecticide, Expert Agricare Import & Export affected farmers seriously.
They demanded investigation into the incident and legal action against the company.
A victim farmer of Girishnagar Village in Mollahat Upazila Chan Mia said, there is an agriculture tool shop, Krishi Bij Bhandar of Faruq Hossain in Daluaguni Bazar in neighbouring Chitalmari Upazila. He purchased insecticide from this shop recently. He applied the insecticide in his vegetable fields. But his all crops died. He suffered a loss of about Tk 50 lakh.
Later on, he went to the Mollahat Agriculture Office with sample of the harmful insecticide. It was tested fake. He said, he will sue the company.
Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection Abdullah Al Imran said, on the basis of that complaint, a drive was conducted on Wednesday afternoon; because of marketing fake insecticide of Expert Agricare Import & Export, Krishi Bij Bhandar was fined Tk 10,000.
Mollahat Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Md Salman Zaman said, in its agriculture website, it was found using registration No. of other company. Fake insecticide production and marketing is punishable offence, he added.
Export Krishi Bij Bhandar's Director Md Yasin said, he counted fine of Tk 10,000 for selling insecticide of that company.
Company Owner Helal said, the company will pay the fine.
