The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, the platform that led the July-August uprising, has declined an invitation from President Md Shahabuddin to participate in the Victory Day celebrations at Bangabhaban.
The organisation announced the decision through a statement on Monday afternoon (December 16).
It said according to the decision of its executive committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, no leader or activist affiliated with the movement will attend Victory Day celebration at Bangabhaban.
The statement declared, “The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement is rejecting the invitation from President Md Shahabuddin, who is associated with the fascist regime, to celebrate the Great Victory Day at Bangabhaban.”
Umaima Fatema, the spokesperson for the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, "We have already called for the resignation of President Shahabuddin. Participating in his programme would go against the sprit and objectives of mass uprising."
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Nirab, a central executive member and coordinator of the movement, on his Facebook post attached a photo of the president’s invitation card and wrote, “We demand the resignation of the fascist President Chuppu. His hands are stained with the fresh blood of my brothers. There is no question of attending his event at the Bangabhaban. On this Victory Day, I reject his invitation."
