ACC begins probe into graft allegations against Hasina, family members

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to probe into allegations of TK   80,000 crore embezzlement by ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her   family members from nine   projects including Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

Apart from Sheikh Hasina, the allegations were made against her sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and her niece Tulip Siddiq, said ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam on Tuesday.

He said that the ACC started its investigation on Tuesday after verifying the allegations of embezzlement of TK 80,000 crore against Sheikh Hasina's family in various projects.

ACC sources said that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina her sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and her niece Tulip Siddiq have been accused of embezzling TK  59,000 crore more from  Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

They have also been accused of embezzling TK 21,000 crore from eight   projects of Ashrayan, BEZA and BEPZA through abuse of power, fraud, irregularities and corruption.    —BSS
