The next general election will be held by June 30, 2026, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has announced. The press secretary made the remarks about the possible election schedule a day after Chief Adviser Dr Yunus' announcement that the next national election could be arranged between the end of 2025 and the first half of 2026.
"A very clear roadmap has been given regarding the elections. What could be a clearer roadmap than this? Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus mentioned that the elections could take place between December 2025 and June 30, 2026. The exact date will be determined and announced by the Election Commission," he said while briefing the media at the Foreign Academy this evening.
Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus gave a clear election roadmap while delivering his speech to the nation on Victory Day, Shafiqul told reporters while responding to a question at a press briefing on Tuesday. "Broadly speaking, the election can be scheduled between the end of 2025 and the first half of 2026," he said in a televised speech to the nation on Monday.
Regarding the killings during the movement, Shafiqul Alam said that justice will be served against those involved in the killings, regardless of their affiliations.
"Those whose hands were stained with blood will face justice-there will be no pardon for them. Anyone involved in the July-August massacres will be brought to justice irrespective of their political identities," he said.
After the ouster of Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5, an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus took office on August 8. For some time, political parties have been asking for an election roadmap from the interim administration.
