Police arrested the main suspect in the murder case of Abu Elias Shanto, joint convener of the Munshiganj district unit Juba Dal.
Police arrested Tipu Molla, 45, son of Mohiuddin Molla of Mollarchar village of Munshiganj town, from Daudkandi in Cumilla at around 9PM on Tuesday.
Tipu was the driver of speedboat belonging to Shanto.
According to the police sources, on November 1, Juba Dal leader Shanto left for Dhaka on a speedboat with the accused in the case. He died on the boat on Meghna River at Kalirchar in Munshiganj. Tipu has remained absconding since the incident.
The younger brother of the deceased, Mamun Sarkar, filed a murder case against 15 people including Tipu as a main accused. After using intelligence information and technological surveillance, police arrested Tipu on Tuesday night from Cumilla.
He was handed over to the Munshiganj police, later.
