International Migrants Day Observed In Districts

Thrust on building discrimination-free BD

International Migrants Day-2024 was observed on Wednesday with a call to build discrimination free beautiful Bangladesh through ensuring the rights of the migrants. 

This year's theme of the Day is - "Honouring the Contributions of Migrants and Respecting Their Rights." 

To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in districts including Chandpur, Gaibandha, Joypurhat, Rangamati, and Moulvibazar.

CHANDPUR: On this occasion, the district administration and District Employment and Manpower Office jointly organized a migrants' fair. 

At the fair, NRBC Bank provided loans to the expatriates of the district. 

A total of Tk 2.11 crore loans were given to six expatriates. 

Chandpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mohsin Uddin, as the chief guest, handed over the cheque to the recipients at the programme while Additional DC (ADC) Mostafizur Rahman was in the chair.

Additional Superintend of Police (ASP) Rashedul Haque Chowdhury, NRBC Bank Chandpur Region Head Mohammad Faruque Hossain, and the bank's Chandpur Sub Branch In-Charge Mehedi Hasan, among others, were also present at that time.

The six recipients are: Monirul Islam, Majeda Akhter, Nargis, Taslima Begum, Nurjahan Begum and Aiyub Ali.

GAIBANDHA: To mark the Day, the district administration, and District Employment and Manpower Office at the directives of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment jointly organized different programmes in cooperation with non-government organizations. 

In the morning around 9.30 am, a colourful rally was brought out from the DC office premises, and it ended at the same venue after parading the main roads of the district town. 

Then, a discussion meeting on the importance of the Day was held in the conference room of the DC office here with ADC (General) AKM Hedayetul Islam Rahman in the chair.

ASP Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Principal of Gaibandha Government College Professor Khalilur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahmud Al- Hasan, Principal of TTC here Engineer Abdur Rahim and Coordinator (Media) of SKS Foundation Ashraful Alam, among others, also spoke at the function. 

The speakers in their speech said that the migrant workers of the country are making a significant contribution to the building of beautiful Bangladesh for the next generations. 

They also said that the government is working to turn the youths of the country into skilled forces through providing them with technical training and for this,  64 technical training centres had been established across the country to enable them go abroad with proper training. 

A large number of officials, bankers, NGO activists, instructors and students of Technical College including journalists of print and electronic media attended the programmes spontaneously.

JOYPURHAT: On this occasion, different programmes were organized in the district. 

The district administration, District Technical Training Centre, and District Employment and Manpower Office jointly brought out a rally from the DC office premises in the morning.

After the rally, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the room of the DC office in the town, where a power point presentation on the migrants of Bangladesh, livelihood of the country's expatriates, and the activities of Employment and Manpower Bureau was given.

Joypurhat DC Afroza Akhter Chowdhury presided over the discussion. 

ADC Mahiuddin Jahangir, ASP Arif Hossain, District Technical Training Centre Principal Abu Syed Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Training Officer of District Livestock Department Khurshid Alam, Assistant Director of District Employment and Manpower Office Mosharraf Hossain, Journalist Abu Bakar Siddique, and Expatriate Mizanur Rahman, among others, also spoke at the programme.

RANGAMATI: In this connection, the district administration organized different programmes in the town. 

A discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the DC office. 

Rangamati DC Mohammad Habib Ullah attended the meeting as the chief guest.

ADC (General) Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Principal of Rangamati Technical Training Centre Baktul Islam, and Manager of Rangamati Prabasi Kallyan Bank Darpan Chakma, among others, also spoke on the occasion.

Later on, honorary crests were given to three expatriates in the district and stipend to seven. 
 
Besides, a migrants' fair was also arranged in the district.

MOULVIBAZAR: Different programmes were organized in Kulaura Upazila of the district to mark the Day.

A rally was brought out, which paraded the main streets of the upazila town.

Later on, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the Upazila Parishad at noon under the initiative of the upazila administration.

Kulaura UNO Mohiuddin presided over the discussion meeting.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Jasim Uddin, Upazila Secondary Education Office Academic Supervisor Shafiqul Islam, Senior Journalist Azizul Islam, BRAC Area Manager Jalilur Rahman, Journalists Nazmul Bari Sohel, Mahfuz Shakil, SR Oni Chowdhury and Mohiuddin Ripon, and Expatriate Shah Alam, among others, also spoke at the programme.

The speakers at the meeting emphasised the role of the expatriates in country's development and public awareness on safe migration. Officials from various departments of the upazila administration were also present at the event.
