DG Food issues new tender to buy 50,000 tonnes of rice

The Directorate General of Food (DG Food) under the Bangladesh Food Ministry has issued an international tender to purchase 50,000 tonnes of rice, sources in the ministry said on Wednesday. The deadline for submission of price offers is January 1.

Floods in Bangladesh in August and October caused huge damage to crops, destroying an estimated 1.1 million tomes of rice, according to data from the agriculture ministry, prompting the country to expand imports of the staple grain amid soaring food prices.

The rice can be supplied from any country and the shipment is required 40 days after the contract award.
