CHATTOGRAM, Dec 18: At least 48,000 people suffer from heart complications every year due to noise pollution.
Noise pollution also affects baby's growth mother's womb and 12,000 children die prematurely, Dr Miton Chakma, Associate Prof of ENT Department of Chattogram Medical College Hospital said at a training workshop of ENT Department on Tuesday.
According to the American Heart Association, for every 10 decibels increase in noise levels, the risk of stroke at any age can increase by 10 per cent.
For people over 65 increase of noise pollution by 10 decibels increase increases the risk of stroke by 27 per cent.
Mood irritability, abnormality in behaviour and fatigue also increases. Noise pollution also increases the possibility of being deaf.
Speaking as the chief guest, Sheikh Mohammad Touhidul Islam, Executive Officer, Chattogram City Corporation said, in our country people tend to disobey the law under the impact of noise pollution.
Children suffer the most from noise pollution, he said, adding we should be more aware of their health.
City corporations cannot avoid responsibility to prevent pollution, he said.
Nasim Farhana Shirin, Director of the Department of Environ-ment, Chattogram, presided over the workshop while Hasan Hasibur Rahman, director of the Department of Environment, Chattogram region, was the special guest.
