Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Head of the Electoral System Reform Commission, has said that upcoming national election would be held under this interim government, not under the caretaker government.
"The national election would be held under this interim government, not under the caretaker government. Nobody should have any doubt on this matter," he said while talking to media on Wednesday, informing that the Justice, who announced the judgment of restoring the caretaker government, has also said it.
The ousted Awami League government has cancelled the provision of caretaker government system with the 15th Amendment of the Constitution to perpetuate its grip on power forever.
Because, we had seen that in the elections under the political government, the ruling parties return to power again, added.
Baidul Majumder said repealing the provision of caretaker government, Awami League has included the provision of election under political government by amending the Constitution. Due to the amendment, Awami League ruling period lingered. It was also one of the reasons of dictatorship ruling in the country.
In response to a query about the procedures of incorporating the caretaker system in the Constitution again, the Commission Head said, "It is long procedures. The matter will go to the Appellate Division. After clearing from the division, the government will prepare a bill and it would be tabled to the Parliament when the Parliament will seat."
"There is no Parliament now. So, it would be tabled when a Parliament would be available. It would passed in the Parliament and taking the approval of the President, it would incorporated in the Constitution. It is procedure of long time. In this situation, it could be assured that next election would be held under this government, not under the caretaker government," he added.
