Electoral System Reform Commission chief Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar has said there is no bar for Awami League to take part in the next general election.
"Awami League has not been barred to take part in the next parliamentary election," he said while responding to the queries of journalists following an open discussion with local administration, political parties and civil society members on the electoral reforms at Rangpur deputy commissioner's office early Thursday (December 19) afternoon.
He also mentioned that the Electoral System Reform Commission was working to hold a free, fair, impartial and participatory election in the country. "We hope that the Election Commission will discharge its duties and responsibilities independently and impartially in the next general election."
Badiul Aalm Majumder observed that the EC could not work impartially as the elections were held under the party governments in the past. However, the election officials would remain free from all kinds of fear and favour in the next election. Because of it, the election would also be free, fair and neutral.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal, District Police Super Mohammad Sharif Uddin and others were present.
Earlier, the leaders of different social, cultural and political organisations raised their proposals at the meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room.
