Iron bridge turned into death trap at Bakerganj

BARISHAL , Dec 19: An iron bridge over the Baraipara Khal (canal) in the middle of Narangal and Bebach villages at Ward No. 1 of Koloskathi Union in Bakerganj Upazila of the district has been turned into death trap.

This bridge has been risky for the last two years. But pedestrians and students are still using the deplorable bridge in a compelling condition.

There are several brickfields in Narangal Village. Locals said, due to reckless moving of brick-laden vehicles, the bridge developed breaking rapidly.

To repair the bridge, local public representatives and authorities concerned are not taking any initiative. Vehicles are still using the bridge, and, it can collapse any time.

Over the years, locals made patchwork to the bridge for communication. But not making patchwork is not possible.

A visit found deplorable condition of the bridge with broken security railings and rusted angles.

Upazila LGED Engineer Hasnaine Hossain said, after inspection, necessary measures will be taken about the bridge.
