Road mishaps claim five lives in 4 districts

Five people including a woman were killed in separate road accidents in four districts - Moulvibazar, Narayanganj, Chattogram and Barishal.

KULAURA, MOULVIBAZAR: A motorcyclist was killed after falling into a ditch along with his vehicle in Kulaura Upazila of the district on Wednesday night.

The accident took place in Achhurighat area of the upazila at around 10 pm.

The deceased was identified as Dulal Mia, 25, son of late Shafiq Mia of Giasnagar Village under Joychandi Union. 

A person was also injured at that time. His name is Rubel Mia. 

Police and local sources said that Dulal and Rubel were returning Kulaura from Juri at night riding on a motorcycle. On the way, the motorcycle fell in a roadside ditch after Dulal lost control over the steering of his vehicle, which left the duo injured.

Later on, Fire Service personnel rescued them and took to a hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Dulal dead and shifted Rubel to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Being informed, police recovered the body of the deceased and handed it over to the deceased's family without an autopsy as per their request.

Sub-Inspector of Kulaura Police Station (PS) Amir Hossain Amu confirmed the incident.

SONARGAON, NARAYANGANJ: Two motorcyclists were killed in a collision with a truck on Meghna Bridge along the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sonargaon Upazila in Narayanganj district on Wednesday evening.  

The deceased were identified as Ashraful Alam, 16, son of Md Alam Sheikh of Madhya Baushia Village, and Asim, 17, son of Selim Mia of Char Choddokahania Village in Gazaria Upazila of Munshiganj District. 

Both of them were eleventh graders at Meghna Star Flower School and College in Sonargaon and Dr Mosharraf Hossain College in Daudkandi respectively.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kanchpur Highway PS Kazi Wahid Morshed said that the two friends were returning Gazaria after visiting Sonargaon. At around 6:30 pm, on their way back, a covered van struck their motorcycle from behind on Meghna Bridge, causing both riders to be thrown from the vehicle.  

Being informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsies, the OC added.

CHATTOGRAM: An elderly man was killed after being hit by a motorcycle in Hathazari Upazila of the district on Wednesday. 
The accident occurred in front of Himmat Muhuri Bari near Farhadabad Union on the Hathazari-Nazirhat regional road at around 3 pm.

The deceased was identified as Khairul Bashar, 85, a resident of Ward No. 3 under Uttar Khiram Union in Fatikchhari Upazila.  
It was known that a speedy motorcycle hit Khairul Bashar while he was crossing the road in the area, which left him dead on the spot. 

Being informed, police from Nazirhat Highway PS rushed to the scene and seized the motorcycle. 

The deceased's body along with the motorbike rider was taken to the PS for further legal procedures.

Police official Asad confirmed the incident.

BARISHAL: A woman was killed in a road accident in the city on Wednesday.

The accident took place in Nathullabad Bus Terminal area at around 11:30 am.

Deceased Masuma Khatun, 28, was the wife of Md Mizanur Rahman, a resident of Ward No. 30 Kalasgram area in the city.

It was known that Mizanur Rahman along with his wife and 13-month-old daughter was going to his father-in-law's house riding on a motorcycle. 

On the way, Masuma fell from the motorcycle all of a sudden. At that time, a truck crushed her, leaving her dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Airport PS OC Md Jakir Shikder confirmed the incident.
