Two men were murdered in separate incidents in two districts - Khulna and Netrakona, on Wednesday.
KHULNA: A young man was shot to death by miscreants in the city on Wednesday night.
The incident took place on Haji Muhasin Road in the city.
The deceased was identified as Md Sohel, 32, son of Khalek Kargi, a resident of Amulia Rajapur in the district.
Police and local sources said that miscreants shot Sohel on the Haji Muhasin road in the city at around 8:30 pm on Wednesday, leaving him critically wounded. Local people then rescued Sohel and took him to Khulna City Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Deputy Commissioner (South) of Khulna Metropolitan Police Sheikh Moniruzzaman Mithu confirmed the incident, adding that investigation is underway in this regard.
NETRAKONA: A young man was killed by his elder brother over a longstanding land dispute in Purbadhala Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Afzal Hossain Hridoy, 28, son of late Hasen Ali and a resident of Jamtala area in the upazila sadar while the accused is his elder brother Iqbal.
According to police and local sources, the two brothers had been in conflict over their inherited property for an extended period.
The dispute escalated, leading Iqbal to plan the attack with a sharp weapon. On Thursday morning, Iqbal fatally stabbed Hridoy in the chest and forehead during an argument.
Locals then rescued Hridoy and took him to Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Purbadhala Police Station Mohammad Riad Mahmud confirmed the matter, saying that the accused Iqbal fled the scene immediately after the incident.
However, the law enforcers are trying to apprehend the accused and legal action would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
