Fire broke out at three clothing stores in Khalishpur area of Khulna City early Wednesday.
The blaze originated at around 1 am, opposite the Power House intersection on the Khulna BIDC Road, according to officials on Wednesday.
Monirul Islam, the owner of the Jyoti Fashion, one of the affected stores, said that he closed the shop at 10 pm on Tuesday and went home. At around 2 am on Wednesday, he came to know over mobile phone of the security guard that there was a fire in his shop.
Later on, he rushed there and saw locals were trying to douse the blaze. At that time, they informed the Fire Service by calling 999.
Three fire fighting units then rushed in and brought the fire under control within half an hour.
Khalishpur Fire Service Senior Station Officer Abdul Malek said that the reason behind the fire is short circuit and the damage caused by the blaze was around Tk 15 to 16 lakh.
