Projects taken by AL govt for political motives will be cancelled

The interim government will cancel projects taken by Awami League (AL) government out of political motives. 

 Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Lathitila Forest in Moulvibazar and 40 more projects will be canceled in phases, by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at its meeting on next Monday. This will be the 5th ECNEC meeting of the interim government. 
According to the agenda, a total of 15 project proposals of various ministries and departments will be raised at the ECNEC meeting.

Out of these, 8 projects will be presented for approval and 6 project proposals approved by the Planning Adviser will be presented to inform the ECNEC meeting. 

The remaining approved project will be placed for cancellation.

The Planning Commission said that it has been decided to cancel the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Lathitila Forest in Moulvibazar. 

The project proposed by the Ministry of Environment was approved by ECNEC in November, 2023. 

More than 40 unprofitable and unimportant projects taken for political consideration will be  cancelled for cost cutting. 

The projects to be cancelled include construction of a flyover in Haor area to establish road connectivity between Netrokona and Sunamganj districts which was taken to serve the interest of former President Md. Abdul Hamid, at an  estimated cost of Tk 3,490 crore.

The Faridpur Tepakhola Park establishment project will also be cancelled. Former Local Government Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain took the initiative to build the park in his constituency.

The government has decided to suspend six open-top tourist bus procurement projects for Sheikh Hasina University in Netrokona, Sheikh Zahurul Haque Rural Development Academy in Jashore, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novotheater in Khulna. 

It has been decided not to extend the implementation time of projects which could not be implement in due time.

The government has decided to drop  the Southern Route Project (MRT Line-5) of the Metrorail from Hemayetpur in Dhaka to Dasherkandi via Aftabnagar. 

Instead, the government has decided to e construct Metrorail (Line-2) from Gabtoli to Narayanganj. It has also been decided to cancel the project for construction of rural infrastructure as per the preferences of former MPs of Awami League.

It has been decided to stop the construction of 550 Mujib Killa (shelter centres) in different districts to provide shelter to people during disasters without using them. 

Besides, the projects for construction of 30 silos, Mujib Killa, installation of lightning rods, 12 modern information complexes, establishment of digital connectivity, bridges on rural roads, roads in upazilas and unions in Dhaka division, Amar Gram-Amar Shohor will  be cancelled.

Besides, the projects for construction of agricultural research institutes in Feni, Chandpur and Tangail districts, high-tech parks in 12 districts, establishment of digital connectivity, mobile game applications, Sheikh Hasina Institute of Frontier and promotion of development at the marginal level will be cancelled. Besides, two economic zone development projects taken in the constituencies of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman and former MP Sajjadul Hasan will be cancelled, the Planning Ministry said.
