The women's Kabaddi teams of the country's two paramilitary forces, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), confirmed the semi-finals of the Victory Day Kabaddi on Friday at the Shaheed Capt M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium at the historic Paltan ground in Dhaka.
In their first match of the group stage, the BGB women's team defeated Joypurhat district women's team by 54-10 points. With this win of BGB, Ansar and VDP also confirmed the last four from Group-B. In the first match, the Ansar women's team defeated the Joypurhat district women's team by 62-12 points. Joypurhat district women's team was eliminated from the group stage after losing two matches.
The Joypurhat women could not do well against the BGB women on the day. In the first half, the BGB women were leading by 26-5. Joypurhat could not return to the game in the second half. They were eliminated from the tournament after losing the match by such a big margin. BGB captain Bristi was adjudged the best player of the match. BGB and Ansar women's team will engage for the top place in the group today.
BGB, the paramilitary force responsible for the border security of Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, the paramilitary auxiliary force responsible for the preservation of internal security and law enforcement, have been greatly contributing to the country's sports. They are good teams in different sports including Kabaddi and Handball.
Meanwhile, the Narail District Women's Team had kept hopes alive for the semi-finals from Group-A. Narail District defeated Faridpur District by 59-19 points. Narail will have to wait for the results of today's match between Police and Faridpur District to calculate their possibility of playing in the semi-finals.
