First janaza of Hassan Ariff held at Dhanmondi, CA attends

Interim Government's Civil Aviation, Tourism and Land Adviser AF Hassan Ariff's first namaj-e-janaza was held after Esha prayer on Friday night at Baitul Aman Jame Mosque in Dhanmondi Road No. 7 of the capital. 

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and other eminent persons attended the namaj-e-janaza.
Besides, another namaj-e-janaza of him will be held at the High Court premises at 11:00am on Saturday, according to a Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry's notification.

Meanwhile, Chief Adviser's press wing said on Friday night that the decision for burial of AF Hassan Ariff would be taken after return of his daughter from abroad. His daughter will return to the country at about 10:30pm on December 22.

Earlier at about 3:10pm, Adviser Hassan Arif  died of heart attack at LabAid Hospital in the capital. His assistant personal secretary (APS) Md Abed Chowdhury has confirmed about his death.  He was 83.

Abid Chowdhury said the adviser had been suffering from cold-related diseases since returning from Savar on December 16.

"He attended office even the following days. Today (Friday) he felt sick and was rushed to the LabAid Hospital in Dhaka where he breathed his last. The probable cause of his death was a heart attack."

Hassan Ariff's son Muaaz Ariff said his father had suddenly fell down on the floor in their apartment. Then he was rushed to LabAid Hospital where on-duty doctors pronounced his dead.

AF Hassan Ariff was sworn-in as the adviser of interim government on August 8 last. On the same day, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus also took oath.

By profession, Hassan Ariff was a lawyer. He was former attorney general from 2001 to 2005, and adviser to Law, Justice and Parliament Affairs, and Religious Affairs of the caretaker government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed from 2008 to 2009.

AF Hassan Ariff was born on 10 June 1941 in Kolkata.

 In 1967, he started his legal practice at the Calcutta High Court.

Ariff started his legal practice in 1970 in Dhaka after moving to the then East Pakistan from India.
