UKHIYA, COX'S BAZAR, Dec 21: A boy was killed and two others were injured in a landslide at a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya Upazila of the district on Friday.
The incident occurred near the border of Camp 14 and Camp 15 in Palongkhali Union under the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya Police Station Mohammad Arif Hossain confirmed the incident.
The deceased was identified as Syed Ullah, 11, son of Imam Hossain, a resident of Block F/16 of Camp 15.
Meanwhile, the injured persons are Syed Noor, 15, and Enayetur Rahman, 14, both residing in Camp 14.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Hadi of 8th Armed Police Battalion (APBn), some boys were playing near the hillside adjacent to Blocks D/03 of Camp 14 and D/12 of Camp 15 when the landslide occurred at around 11:30 am. Three boys were critically injured at that time.
Emergency responders including APBn officials, members of Fire Service and Civil Defence and Rohingya volunteers rushed to the scene and rescued the boys.
They were then taken to Jamtoli MSF Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Syed Ullah dead. The injured children are receiving treatment at the hospital.
