Janaza of Hassan Ariff held at SC, Secretariat

The second and third namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayers) for AF Hassan Ariff, a senior lawyer of the Bangladesh Supreme Court and an adviser to the interim government, were held on Saturday at the inner garden of the Supreme Court and Secretariat respectively.

The Chief Justice of Bangladesh Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed, along with Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain, Dr Kamal Hossain, Barrister M Amirul Islam, the Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman, the chief election commissioner, the secretary general of Jamaat, Supreme Court judges, senior advocate Zainul Abedin, and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, among other law professionals, attended the prayer in the Supreme Court.

Following the namaz-e-janaza, the chief justice and others paid their respects by laying wreaths on the deceased's body. After the tribute, the body was taken to the Secretariat for the third namaz-e-janaza where the interim government advisers and high officials of the ministries attended at the third janaza.

The body of AF Hassan Ariff, an adviser to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the Ministry of Land, will be laid to rest at the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in Mirpur on Monday.

Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, Senior Information Officer of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, confirmed that the burial will take place in the morning after Ariff's daughter returns from Canada on Sunday.

While reflecting on Hassan Ariff's contributions, Dr Kamal Hossain said: "He was an honest and dedicated individual. He stood by everyone, regardless of political affiliations, and provided legal assistance. His loss has left us deeply saddened."

He had served as the adviser for the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in the interim government. From January 2008 to January 2009, he also held the position of adviser for the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs under the then-interim government. Additionally, he served as the attorney general of Bangladesh from October 2001 to April 2005.
