Trainee doctors block Shahbagh demanding Tk 50,000 allowance

Postgraduate trainee doctors from different parts of the country blocked Shahbagh intersection in Sunday to press home their demand for raising their monthly allowance from Tk 25,000 to Tk 50,000 or the 9th grade pay scale.

A protesting trainee doctor said that the Doctors Movement for Justice Society and its affiliated organisation the Postgraduate Private Trainee Doctors Association have been staging demonstration demanding a pay hike since 2022.

He said that they got to know that the matter is still pending at the Ministry of Finance. Despite multiple ultimatums, no effective action has been taken.

So the protesters said they will not leave the place until they are assured by the authorities concerned about fulfilling their demand.
