BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said, "In addition to building a social movement against bribery, those who ask for bribes should be handed over to the police."
Speaking at a rally titled 'Building Equality, Harmony and Human Bangladesh' at the Sakoa High School grounds in Boda Upazila of Panchagarh, he said, "The people of the country have to pay bribes wherever they go for services. We promise from today we will not give bribes anymore."
"All of you have to create a movement against bribery. Whoever asks for a bribe will be arrested and handed over to the police. To stop bribery in police department we are changing them also," said Fakhrul.
He said, "On August 5, army gave two options to Sheikh Hasina. one to be trampled by the tumultuous people and the other to flee the county to save her life. She fled from the country leaving their leaders and activists in danger."
"This is the result of fascism," Fakhrul added.
He said, "By fleeing to the other side Hasina is spreading misinformation and conspiracy that Hindus are being oppressed in Bangladesh. But we are peace loving people. Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Christians all live together. Those who want to put us in danger by spreading false propaganda, we have to stand up against them untidily."
Fakhrul said, "Many people are unhappy when talking about voting. To those who are dissatisfied, yes we want votes so that we can elect the right people. Who will go to parliament and work for us."
He said, "Some say everyone will forget 1971 for 2024. But we cannot forget 1971, because it gave us an independent country, we were able to create a territory for ourselves."
Fakhrul said, "No one else has used torture as an instrument of oppression than the Awami League in the history of the country. They hanged Muslim scholars, arrested politicians and jailed ordinary people."
"Now we have to be careful so that no one can again commit such kind of crimes in the country," he said.
Fakhrul said, "We all want the development of Bangladesh including government officials, army, police and BGB. We all need to seize this opportunity ignoring all differences and build a country of love and progress."
"We have to work together for this. Care should be taken that no one can divide us anymore," he said.
Fakhrul said, "We want to thank the students, who by sacrificing their life have created another opportunity for us to bring back democracy in the country."
He said, "We also want reforms. In 2022, our leader gave 31 points. He urged all party leaders and workers to work together to prevent all conspiracies against the country." BNP Secretary General handed over financial assistance to the relatives of 6 families killed in the August Revolution.
