A court in Dhaka on Monday placed former lawmaker Kamrul Ashraf Khan Poton on a three-day remand in Jubo Dal leader Shamim murder case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akhter passed the order after Investigation Officer Ferdous Alam, sub-inspector of Detective Branch of Police, produced him seeking a 10-day remand prayer for questioning.

Meanwhile, the defence submitted an application seeking bail along with cancellation of the remand prayer on grounds that their client was implicated in the case just to harass him.
On December 19, police arrested Poton from Keranigani. And he was sent to jail the next day following a court order.

Shamim was killed after Awami League leaders and activists attacked BNP's rally on December 28 last.

On September 24, 2024, a case was filed over the incident.
