Teenage girl commits suicide in Barishal

A teenage girl reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her home on Baptist Mission Road in Barishal city.

Police recovered her body from Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on Monday (December 23) morning.
The dead, Shammi Akter, 22, daughter of Shahjahan Hawlader of Patuakhali Sadar, was a second-year degree student at Government Syed Hatem Ali College.

Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station SI Miraj Mollah said that Shammi used to live in a rented house adjacent to Anwar Mosque on Baptist Mission Road in the city. Her parents often would also come and stay with her.

The SI added that on Monday morning, locals found Shammi hanging from the ceiling of the house. Later, she was rescued with the help of acquaintances and taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
