1 killed, 5 hurt in Dhaka-Mawa Expressway crash

A woman was killed and five others injured when a covered van crashed a private car from behind in Kuchiamora, near Dhaleshwari Toll Plaza in Munshiganj on Monday morning due to poor visibility amid thick fog.

The deceased was Panna Banik, 35, wife of Khokon Roy of Bajitpur area in Kishoreganj. The injured are Panna’s one-year-old child Shilpi Ghosh, Deepta Banik, Ishita Ghosh, and the covered van's driver Md Mahfuz.

Abdul Quader Jilani, officer-in-charge of Hasara Highway Police Station, said that the incident took place around 6:30AM after the covered van hit the car, another covered van hit it from behind, killing Panna dead on the spot.

The five injured have been taken to Srinagar Health Complex, said Dewan Azad Hossain, Station Officer of Srinagar Fire Service.
