Shahriar Alam, family members barred from leaving country

Former state minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam, his wife Silvia Pervin and two sons Sadman Shahriar and Ahnaf Shahriar have been barred from leaving the country over graft allegations.

Acting Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court Md Ibrahim Miah passed the order on Monday allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Investigation Officer (IO) and ACC Deputy Director Md Salauddin filed the plea while public prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam moved the petition before the court.

The petition mentioned that Shahriar and his family members are accused amassing illegal wealth of crores through misusing power.

It said as the ACC in investigating the matter they suspect that the accused might have fled the country to avert the justice. Therefore the travel ban needed for fair investigation.

Hearing from both sides, the court here today imposed travel ban.
