Two men were murdered in separate incidents in two districts - Chuadanga and Narayanganj, on Sunday.
CHUADANGA: A farmer was allegedly hacked to death by his rivals over a land dispute in Alamdanga Upazila of the district on Sunday night.
Three others were seriously injured in the incident that took place at Majherpara of Ramdia Village under Khaskarra Union in the upazila at around 8 pm.
The deceased was identified as Ahmed Sharif, 45, a resident of the area.
The injured are: Abdul Alim, 40, Selim, 55, and Selim's son Shoaib, 33, of the same area.
Injured Abdul Alim said that Sharif had a land dispute with one Ansar for a long time. Ansar and Farid had been threatening him in various ways. As a sequel to it, they attacked on Sharif on Sunday evening, and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot. Three persons were also injured in the attack at that time. They were admitted to Alamdanga Upazila Health Complex.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Alamdanga Police Station (PS) Masudur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this connection.
SONARGAON, NARAYANGANJ: A man was stabbed to death by his son in Sonargaon Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The incident took place in Gobindapur Village under Noagaon Union of the upazila at around 11:30 am.
The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 45, a resident of the area.
However, police arrested the accused Rifat, 18, son of the deceased, in the evening.
According to local sources, Rifat had been struggling with drug addiction for a prolonged period, which often led to conflicts within the family. On Sunday, he demanded Tk 2,000 from his father to fund his drug habit.
When Shafiqul refused and reprimanded him, an argument ensued. In a fit of rage, Rifat grabbed a knife from the house and stabbed his father, killing him on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Sonargaon PS OC Mohammad Abdul Bari confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
