The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Monday  cancelled the "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park, Moulvibazar (Phase 1)" to  conserve biodiversity of Lathitila forest.

The decision was taken at an ECNEC meeting chaired by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus at NEC Conference Room in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

The meeting over, briefing reporters  Planning Adviser Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud said  ECNEC  cancelled the project to save Lathitila Forest's biodiversity.

Construction of a safari park in this area would adversely impact the forest's ecosystem, he said.

On November 9, 2023, ECNEC approved the safari park project of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
