Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday said that a seven-member commission has been formed to investigate the 2009 Pilkhana massacre.

Speaking at a programme at the BGB headquarters in Pilkhana, the adviser said the Chief Adviser endorsed the formation of the commission on Sunday night.

Jahangir Alam expressed the hope that the creation of the commission, a long-standing demand of the nation, would be a significant step towards bringing clarity and justice to the tragic incident.

The commission's objective is to uncover the true causes behind the events of February 25, 2009, when a mutiny erupted at the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR, now BGB) headquarters in Pilkhana, resulting in the deaths of dozens, including military personnel and civilians.    —UNB
