Body formed to probe murders on vessel in Meghna

The Ministry of Industries has formed a four-member committee to investigate the brutal murders of crew members inside the fertilizer-laden vessel near the Harina Ferry Ghat in Chandpur.

A press release issued by the ministry informed the matter on Monday.

The committee includes an additional secretary of the ministry as its convener and a joint secretary as its member secretary.
It has been directed to submit a report on the reasons behind the incident, the extent of the damage and clear recommendations to prevent similar maritime incidents in the future within the next five working days.

Six of deceased were identified as MV Al Bakhera master Kibria, driver Salauddin, helmsman Aminul Munshi, greaser Sajibul Islam, crewmen Azizul Munshi and Majedul Islam.

At around 3PM on Monday, five bodies were recovered from MV Al Bakhera, which was anchored on the Meghna River. Later, critically injured two died at Chandpur general hospital.
