The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Tuesday issued an arrest warrant against former lawmaker Saiful Islam and four others in a case filed over burning bodies near Ashulia Police Station during the July-August mass uprising.
A three-member ICT bench led by its chairman Md Golam Mortuza issued the order following a petition of the prosecution.
Chief prosecutor Md Tajul Islam was present for the prosecution.
The other four accused are police officials, Tajul Islam informed the court.
Then the ICT chairman asked to produce the five as soon as possible.
After the court order, Tajul Islam said to media that on August 5, the accused burnt the five bodies piling up those in a police van to avert arrest. A video shows Saiful Islam, lawmaker from Dhaka-19, fire them. All the five were students. For this, the tribunal asked to arrest and produce them. The ICT also directed to inform the development on January 25.
Two separate cases were filed on September 11 against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 69 others over the incident.
