Police arrested five members of an extortionist group from Padma rivers in Rajbari district on Monday night.
The information was confirmed through a press release signed by Md Imran Mahmud Tuhin, in-charge of Daulatdia River police outpost, on Tuesday morning.
The arrested men are Md Rasel Rana, 24; Md Rafiqul Islam, 22; Md Rubel Bapary, 25; Md Badsah, 20; and Md Rabiul Sikdar, 35. All are hailed from Manikganj district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the police conducted a raid in the Padma and the Zamuna rivers and arrested the robbers from bulkheads while they were robbing, it added.
At that time, a boat and two lethal weapons were recovered from the seized boat, the police official added.
